A Time to Serve

It has been said that life is but a vapor. We are taught by the prophet Isaiah that the grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of God shall stand forever. The word of God is our source for truth and our life guide. Any real success that we have during our time on earth should be seen as a gift from God. I am not talking financial success. Houses, boats, cars,

and other pleasures can be nice, but I’m talking about spiritual success. Of course, we know that it all starts with knowing Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. The way, the truth, and the life is spiritually speaking, the only way, the ultimate truth, and the giver of eternal life. You will be forever unsuccessful if you do not know the Lord. Jesus says as much in Mark 8:36. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? The answer is straight to the point and powerful. It will profit you nothing. In fact you will lose everything, and it will never come back to you. Dying in your sin means that you are eternally damned. Rejecting the gospel of Christ is a forever death sentence.

Not only is life a vapor, but you and I are not promised tomorrow. The time of your salvation is now. The time to serve as a saint of the Most High is today. We live in a very politized world. Mankind is on fire and perilous times are here. The truth is now called hate speech. Our rulers call evil good and good evil. Woe unto them! The world is offended by the gracious words of our great king. When the saints of God try to pull the lost out of the fire, they are called bigots. They are told to mind their own business. Or even worse, they are absolutely ignored. In spite of all that be against the saints of God, we must believe with great faith that the Lamb is returning as a lion. We must stand for what is true and right without hesitation. Jesus did not fret the Roman empire that ruled so mightily in his day. And as our great example we do not fear the tyrannical government of our day. Instead we are to be about our Father’s business. As the Lord says in John 9:4: I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh when no man can work.

This short devotion is to encourage today’s Christian to stay the course. You are blessed to be a sheep of the Good Shephard and following him is the only way to finish your course with joy. Life is but a vapor, but not the afterlife. You and I will fade in this here present world, but this world is not our home. Today you can do something for God and his kingdom. Today you can be blessed by abiding in the vine and bearing your cross. Today you can serve and rejoice in your salvation. Tomorrow is not promised, and it may never come. Serve today! We battle a common enemy. It is spiritual warfare of the highest order. The serpent who beguiled Eve seeks to destroy you. We are taught to give no place to the devil. As the Lord was tempted so are we. How do we deal with this? Follow his words found in Matthew 4:10. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Serving God is the best way that you and I can avoid the snares of the devil. James 4:7 says, Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. The more time that we spend serving the Lord, it will leave us much less time to be caught up in the cares of this life. In the 35th Psalm King David said, And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in his salvation. You are invited to rejoice just as the King of Judah once did. Surely life is but a vapor, the grass will wither, and the mind may fade. But, if you choose to be a servant of the God of your salvation, if you live and walk in the spirit you will soon enter into the joy of the Lord and your burdens will be a vapor. Your tears will be eternally wiped away. And we know that when he shall appear, we shall be like him. Do not fret, serve while the sun shines, and prepare to enter into his glory for all eternity.
